Ascenders

Rope clamps/grabs are designed to minimize the damage to the rope in the event of shock loading. Their cams are grooved which gives adequate friction to lock onto the rope but minimizes damage to the sheath and core if there is an inadvertent shock loading. These rope clamps/grabs slide in the case of overloading unlike the more conventional ascenders which bite deeper into the rope. The threshold at which the sliding takes place depends on several factors:-
• the diameter of the rope
• the construction of the rope
• the general condition of the rope i.e. muddy, worn, icy etc.

It is up to the user to decide that the rope clamp is suitable for the use intended.
We would recommend that these devices be used on single ropes of kernmantle construction within the diameters indicated for each device.
Two versions are available in the Petzl range: the “...cender” rope clamp/grabs with the cam fixed by a manually removable pin; the “...grab” rope clamp/grabs with a fixed cam (nut and bolt) which can only be removed with a tool. The “...grab” version is thus permanently attached to the rope. Certified CE EN567 and UIAA.
